Coloured marker pen on paper
Achim was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1931. He was surrounded by art at an early age.
Achim didn’t start drawing until his 70s. His art is a hobby which keeps him busy; typically he will complete one of his signature works in one sitting, working late into the night. Achim has broad artistic tastes ranging from Paul Klee, Mark Tobey, Max Ernst, and Diego Rivera.
Achim is well travelled, having taught in colleges in America and lived in Mexico. He is fluent in German, English and Spanish. He is also a voracious reader, has a collection of many books and counts William S Burroughs as one of his favourite authors.
Achim arrived in Australia in 1997 with his then partner and in 2002 he found accommodation within Wintringham Specialist Aged Care. Wintringham is a welfare organisation which among other things provides housing to older people who need it most.
In his own words, he describes himself as a “a loner with bizarre fantasies, who tries to hide from the world”.
